Northumberland leading 2013 bookings, according to fast-growing cottage holidays company
Sykes Cottages, Britain’s fastest-growing independent holiday letting agency, has reported sales up 39 per cent so far this year – and Northumberland is leading the way.
“Easter booked faster than ever, especially for family-sized holiday cottages,” said the company’s founder Clive Sykes, “and the May Bank Holiday is looking good too.”
“Fortunately, we have managed to recruit not only 1,000 new cottages in the last year but enough people on the phones to cope with this extra demand,” he added.
The company says that future growth is restricted only by the number of holiday homes it is able to recruit in key areas, including coastal holiday cottages.
With holiday cottages nationwide, the company’s five most popular areas for 2013 holiday cottages so far are:
- Northumberland (pictured above) and Yorkshire
- The West Country (Dorset, Devon and Cornwall)
- North Wales
- Cumbria
- The Peak District.
Sykes believes the domestic market is more value-orientated than ever.
“Holidaymakers, from young families to older couples, continue to feel the pinch,” said Sykes, “but they still want a holiday and they still want a quality cottage.
“Our four- and five-tick properties are extremely popular, especially as we offer them at such competitive prices – the best in the market, I believe. I guess that’s why we are seeing such demand, not only for summer, but for last-minute holidays too.”
