Biking to diving: five activities to make your next holiday an unforgettable experience
We all look forward to the annual summer holiday with a great deal of anticipation, whether we are planning to spend a week in Margate or a month in Marbella.
We all work so hard for the rest of the year, so why shouldn’t we savour that wonderful trip? The chance to unwind without having to think about work is a real temptation.
While many tourists will want nothing more than a comfy sun lounger and a good book, it can get a little boring after a while if you’re just lying in the sun. Thankfully, chances are that there will be various activities available in your chosen destination, so here are some which may tempt you into becoming a little more active than usual.
Hiring a bike
It seems a shame to visit a destination and not see any of it except the beach and your chosen hotel. There will often be plenty to see in and around the resort, so why not hire bikes and see the region from two wheels? This is a particularly good option if you’re travelling as part of a family group – as the kids can enjoy it as much as the adults – and it’s cheap as well.
Go off-roading
There is something wonderfully exciting about an off-road adventure, especially in a region like the French Pyrenees or the Carpathians (in Romania) that has plenty of hills and valleys to explore. As you’d expect, this activity usually involves a great deal of bouncing around in your seat, so if discomfort isn’t your thing it may be best left to the other members of your party!
Scuba diving
Some of the most popular beach destinations around the world – such as Egypt, the Bahamas and the Cayman Islands – are home to dive centres that can offer you a few hours of wonderful undersea exploration. Even if you are a complete novice you can still have fun, as trained experts are on hand to show you what to do, making it a wonderful holiday pastime for all ages.
Segway riding
If you are fortunate enough to be close to a place that offers Segway adventure days you are in for a real treat. Riding around on a Segway is an experience that everyone should enjoy at least once in their lives, and when better to do so than while you are on holiday with the family? It is a treat not to be missed, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy a Segway experience here in the UK.
A round of golf
Golf is a sport that can be enjoyed throughout the year, of course, but it becomes an extra special activity when the sun is shining and the sky is lovely and blue. Even if you don’t play all that often, a round of golf on holiday will provide plenty of fun – and exercise! Most courses that are close to holiday resorts will have clubs to hire, too, so you don’t even have to worry about talking all the kit with you.

[…] Now, if it’s spectacular nature you’re after, Transylvania delivers in bucketloads. While you might be keeping half an eye out for our fanged friend Dracula, be sure to keep the other one and a half eyes peeled for bears, wolves and lynx in the Carpathian Mountains – especially if you’re brave enough to head off road.
