Why not tackle the Three Peaks Challenge in the UK?
If you’re a keen walker and you’re up for trying something a bit more challenging, you should definitely consider taking on the legendary Three Peaks.
There’s some gorgeous countryside around the UK and you could really see the best of it if you hike your way up to the highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland.
The Three Peaks Challenge will see you taking in the sights of Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland. While they’re not the three highest peaks in the UK (there are many other Scottish mountains higher than Snowdon and Scafell Pike), they still pose quite a challenge for most people – even the fittest and more adventurous out there.
To make sure you’re completely prepared for the task in hand, you need to have some navigational gear on you – a map and compass are particularly useful – as well as the right clothing and footwear. Of course, due to the strenuous nature of the walks, it also makes sense to have plenty of fluids and water to hand to keep your strength up, especially if you’re trying to complete the challenge in just 24 hours.
The great British weather can sometimes be a little bit varied, so you’ll also need to make sure you have layered clothing to tackle the challenge. Men’s fleece jackets are a particularly useful piece of clothing to have to hand. If you’re doing the challenge correctly, you’ll need to do the whole thing within 24 hours, and chances are you’ll be contending with some cold and windy conditions en route. This is when fleece jackets can be really useful, as they’ll keep you nice and warm, but you can take them off easily if the sun makes an appearance at any point.
If you fancy trying something a bit different on your holiday this year, the Three Peaks Challenge would definitely be that. You could spend a few relaxing days in the vicinity of one of the peaks afterwards too, to make sure that you experience even more of the great British outdoors.
