Corfu, Greece
Corfu is one of those destinations that you are never going to forget.
Filled with tranquil beaches, crystal clear seas, wonderful tavernas and amazing people, there is something here for everyone – whatever your age or budget. Corfu has quite a relaxed atmosphere, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t also opportunities for fun; quite the opposite, and whether you love history or just relaxing on a beach you are going to have a wonderfully enjoyable holiday.
There really is plenty to do and see in Corfu, while the people are friendly, polite and always willing to talk to you, particularly in their native tongue. Here are my recommendations of some of the best places to check out while in Corfu…
Paleokastritsa really is a must-visit location. With water sports, beautiful beaches (above), riveting restaurants, and wonderful history just bursting at the seams and waiting to be explored, there is something for everyone. Several days spent here will be several days well spent, as you learn about the religion and history of this area while enjoying beautiful food and fantastic company.
If you are looking to visit a cosy, small, relaxed village then Kassiopi is the one for you. Filled with markets, tavernas, restaurants, a bakery, and wonderful little shops this is a must-see destination. A whole day can easily be spent here, browsing the wonderful little businesses and picking up souvenirs and trinkets.
If you want to learn some more about Greek mythology then you will want to visit Sissi’s Palace. Here you will be taken on an educational tour that will teach you more than you ever imagined possible, in just a few short hours. This is a fantastic historical stop, and just short enough that the children will enjoy it also.
If you are looking for a little something to satisfy the children then Aqualand is the place for you. This is a real fun-filled water park playing host to slides, pools and pretty tasty food too. Your children will love you for the rest of the holiday if you take them here, and may well nag you to take them back. Aqualand is a particular treat when the weather is at its best.
One of the best activities on a holiday in Corfu is horse riding lessons at Trailriders Horse Trekking. Here you will be able to receive riding lessons, explore the beautiful tree-lined local villages, and spend time together as a family. This is a wonderful afternoon out for the whole family, and younger children will simply adore getting to meet, stroke, and even ride the horses. This is a wonderful way to explore the local area while learning a new skill.
There really are many amazing places to explore in Corfu and while these are just a selection they should give you an idea of the kind of activities you can enjoy while holidaying in Corfu. I would firmly recommend Corfu, for all ages, budgets and confidence levels. There is something here for everyone and whether you want to participate in water sports, relax on the beach or just explore the local scenery you will not be disappointed, particularly by the lovely weather and the delightful people.
