Choosing the right hotel for a UK break
Planning the perfect UK get away doesn’t have to be a chore, especially when there are plenty of great places around the country to stay.
And once you have decided just where you want to visit, it’s worth thinking about what you want from your hotel.
Get the most out of your well-earned break by choosing a hotel that really fits with your style and requirements. Choose between large modern hotels with all sorts of exciting facilities, a boutique hotel where style and luxury are at the top of the agenda, or go for something small and cosy such as a family-run inn or guesthouse.
It also helps to think about who you are travelling with. For example, if you’re on an exciting break with the kids it can be useful to go for a hotel that specifically caters for families. This way you will find helpful touches such as free cots for the little ones, high chairs and special children’s menus in the restaurant. You can also find hotels that have specific entertainment for the kids such as a dedicated playroom or outdoor play area. Having all these little extras on hand means you can travel hassle free – not to mention not having to squeeze all that extra equipment into your car!
Of course, if it’s a romantic break you are after then go for a hotel that is steeped in history or has a remote setting. Hotels with their own landscaped grounds mean you can easily escape for a romantic stroll through the woods or to the lake. Or, if you both like a bit of adventure, it is quite easy to find a hotel that provides all sorts of exciting outdoor activities, from clay pigeon shooting to great days out at local adventure parks. If you prefer the hustle and bustle of a city, city-based hotels can put you right in the heart of the attractions and tourist sights, offering instant access to all the areas you want to visit as well as the lively nightlife.
Some hotels can offer specific themed stays such as golf breaks or spa days, which are great if you fancy escaping the rat race and indulging in your favourite activity. Get the girls together and pamper yourself at the onsite spa, which often includes unlimited use of all the spa facilities as well as the chance to sample a delicious healthy lunch, while the boys head off down the fairway for a few holes of golf.
Keeping all these things in mind when you start to look at a hotel for a UK break means that you are bound to find the perfect base for you. And don’t think that you have to book months in advance to secure the best rooms either, as there are plenty of lastminute secret hotels that can offer fantastic rates even days before you travel.
