Hidden UK holiday locations

Across the course of the year, thousands of tourists visit the United Kingdom's travel destinations.

With so much beautiful countryside, stunning coastline and exciting cities it comes as no surprise. However, there are a number of destinations that are often overlooked. These destinations are often just as beautiful and exciting as the more visited places, but simply a lot more hidden.

One interesting and unique destination is Blanchland village (above), situated in the scenic heart of Northumberland. The beautiful village has remained intact for hundreds of years and is a perfect representation of past village life. Many of the buildings are listed due to their historic relevance, such as the old school house, and there is even a traditional cobbled market square.

In East Anglia, another beautiful village is Horsey in Norfolk. The village itself is small but has a quaint church and a traditional style pub. The real attraction is the beach a mile away from the village. The long sandy beach stretches into the distance and is often unpopulated - except in the later months of the year when it's full of seals. The surrounding area is also a great place to spend a holiday, with rolling green scenery for miles.

Over in Scotland, the village of Lochwinnoch is another perfect destination. Placed between two lochs the village has its own bird sanctuary, interesting boutiques and countless stunning nature trails, all in close proximity to Glasgow.

For a destination in Wales, try Whitesands Bay in Pembrokeshire. Part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, the beach has a Blue Flag for cleanliness and is perfect for long walks, as well as activities such as surfing. Close to the magnificent beach there is a chapel dedicated to St Patrick, as this location was said to be the site of one of his visions.

Four miles north of Land's End, at the south western tip of the country, is Cape Cornwall - a charming location to visit. The small headland is rocky but green, and features the ruins of one of the old mines that are so characteristic of the area.

Another hidden location in Cornwall that makes a great place to stay is the historic town of Lostwithiel. The pleasant town is home to a number of antique shops and traditional events, while the beautiful countryside surrounding it is perfect for day trips.

The south west is renowned for its wide range of accommodation options, including Cornish cottage rentals, so there's plenty of scope to find the perfect base for your holiday.
